Drawing Inspiration #1

When the day arrived to vote on the theme for Issue II, we had too many exceptional ideas to choose from. It was a close call, but when we tallied up the votes Rage // Serenity took first place and we all loved it like a firstborn child. As Maya touched on in our  last blog post, our submission process is as painless as possible and we are looking forward to seeing everyone’s work. Seriously, the fact that we are already putting together our second issue is mind-blowing in the best way possible.

That being said, I recognize that putting yourself out there can be daunting. On top of that, submitting an original piece of work that fits a theme can be even more challenging. Answer the following probing 👽 questions for ideas that illicit rage or serenity and don’t forget to submit your work for Issue II Rage // Serenity.

Don’t forget, submissions close in one month from today!
Rage
  1. Who has made an unprovoked rude/racist/bigoted/generally awful joke at your expense in your life and what was your response? How do you wish you had responded?
  2. What was the biggest fight you had with a parent or guardian in which you knew you were right, and even after you were proven to be right you didn’t get an apology? How did you feel?
  3. When did you find out that ExxonMobil scientists discovered how bad climate change would be in the 70’s and yet chose to bury their reports to continue profiting through exploitative practices that harm people, plants, and animals? Is that moment right now? Here’s a timeline for some added zest to your rage courtesy of Greenpeace.
  4. Where were you when you found out the Trump administration was separating children from their mothers and keeping people in cages aka modern day concentration camps?
  5. Why were you an inactive bystander in someone’s life at a point when they needed someone to intervene or help?

Serenity
  1. When was the last time you visited a new place and felt peaceful to be just another face in the crowd ?
  2. What is your favorite self-care practice that quiets everything else around you?
  3. Remember a time when you looked at your pet/child/loved one sleeping peacefully? How did you feel at that moment?
  4. How do you feel after volunteering for an organization close to your heart?
  5. Have you ever seen a gibbon discover a hedgehog? If you haven’t click here to see what you’re missing out on.
